Why Is The
Internet Community Screaming And Making Such
A Fuss About
Skipe
Recently I had to have a look at a really awesome write-up in Business Post Magazine and discovered that there is a thing called a skype phone spreading over the web .You would be astounded what these two bright sparks did to make themselves a small fortune, they sold it to ebay.So why am I getting so pumped up?.A lot of people call it voip.It is hardly a novel concept telephoning a friend over the world wide web without having to putting your hand in your pocket.
Basically then you will be able to chat to whoever you like whenever you like wherever they are in the world and can even see them if you have skipe and a web cam. There is a drawback, however, and that is that it is most easily used over a isdn connection.Great pictures are not guaranteed however if your connection is slow.
So I went on Ebay and yes you guessed it, they are peddling phones already due to skyp.I guess it's been around for about a year already but it's catching on fast..
Some of the commercial phone companies are already selling voip phone service..The question on everyones tongues is will it last the distance. Will the net spell the end for voice over ip.
If past experience is anything to go by then we can expect the big players to look at voip in microscopic detail. The government will undoubtedly see the plusses and want to add money to their coffers by using voip.At the moment skype makes its money by charging people who phone land lines from their pc using it.
The next big thing which voip are making a cheeky move towards is the notion of web conferencing. Voice Over IP comes pretty close, except that it will be eventually typified as an internet phone service, ready to take that next step of video conferencing which gained a lot of attention years ago.
We are also seeing an enormous amount of people using audio and video on the web now that download speeds are that much faster.Everything says that audio and video will be the next biggest thing since sliced bread.
But one thing is for sure, it's not just hype they're muttering about, and only time will tell if the general public will catch on when they get their free skype download. The question remains will voip take over from the phone.
