“The Perfect Pitch Test”

The Perfect Pitch Test

How To Tell If You Can Instantly Recognize ANY Chord Or Tone By Ear

I used to have no idea if a C was different from a B.

I could be standing there playing with a band, thinking to myself “What key are they in...” but I didn’t know what to do next. This would often leave me fumbling around my instrument for the right key, and many times I was dead wrong, as I didn’t get it right the first time...or the second or even the third time!

       Here’s what I do now:

If I’m playing in a band or imagining a melody, and I want to know what notes to play, I’ll just listen for a split second and then reach over to my instrument and play it. I’ll be in the exact same key as the band or I’ll play exactly what was in my head.

To find out if you can have “Perfect Pitch”, listen to the following tone a couple of times (Turn on your speakers):

Now listen to the next tone:

The first tone is an F sharp. Notice how it has “sharp and twangy” tone qualities. The second tone is an E flat. Listen to its “round and warm” tone qualities.

By using “The Perfect Pitch Test” I’ve shown you that it IS possible to hear the difference between tones. Right now it’s very subtle because you haven’t been exposed to the correct way of hearing yet. Now you have a way of knowing that YOU CAN recognize any tone by ear —and you know that it is possible to instantly play what you hear instead of relying on trial and error...
